Correspondence regarding the Warburg Institute, 1945-1949.

Collection contains 10 items of correspondence and two published volumes. Correspondence relates to Warburg Institute business and consists of six letters and one calling card received by Goodhart along with three carbon copies of his responses. Correspondents are Fritz Saxl, head librarian at the Warburg Institute, London; Eric M. Warburg; Henri Frankfort, director of the Warburg Institute from 1949-1954; and Gertrud Bing, acting director of the Warburg Institute prior to Henri Frankfort. Of particular note is a letter by Saxl, dated 1946 June 1, about his stay in the U.S., the publication of the Warburg Journal and the plan to start an encyclopaedia. The letter also addresses funding for the encyclopaedia and calls on Goodhart to form an "American Friends of the Warburg Institute" for the fundraising. Other letters deal with the possibility of Goodhart contributing toward the costs of publishing Saxl's lectures.
